Funding policy - exclusions

There are a number of areas within which the Trust does not operate, which are as follows:

  • The broad fields of health and medicine, including drug and alcohol addiction, and projects concerned with the physically and mentally disabled, although exceptions are made from time to time for the development of physically disabled young people.
  • Projects concerning museums, galleries, libraries and exhibition centres.
  • Individual churches, cathedrals and other historic buildings (except for limited support under the preservation category), or heritage projects.
  • The whole field of the Arts, including theatre, music and drama.
  • Appeals concerned with sport including sports centres and individual playing field projects.
  • Appeals from individual schools, colleges, universities or other educational establishments.
  • Expeditions or research projects.

Unless there are exceptional circumstances, the Trust will not usually provide funding for salaries, major building projects, including the purchase of property or land, endowment appeals or appeals which seek to replace statutory funding.

Finally, to repeat the statement on our Home page, the Trust will only consider appeals from registered charities, never from individuals.
